UTC Aerospace Systems is one of the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. We design, manufacture and service systems and components and provide integrated solutions for commercial, regional, business and military aircraft, helicopters and other platforms. In 2012, UTC Aerospace Systems was formed by combining two industry leaders, Hamilton Sundstrand and Goodrich, creating an organization with key positions on a wide range of aircraft flying today and substantial content on various UAVs, satellites and ground and naval vehicles.
This position reports directly to the Manager of Materials Science and Engineering in Rockford, IL. The materials organization is part of UTC Aerospace Systems Central Engineering organization and is responsible for materials characterization and testing, providing analytical services, conducting root cause and failure analysis, working closely with external suppliers to ensure part quality as well as developing new materials for future platforms. Primary responsibilities for the position may include the performance and/or management of imaging, elemental and compound analysis, thermal analysis and mechanical testing. Position may include on-site support and troubleshooting to manufacturing processes. Engineer will be expected to generate data, analyses and reports in support of conclusions, and interface with internal and external customers and suppliers.
Bachelors or masters degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering or related.
Position requires 0 to 4 years experience. Ability to use standard business engineering software including Microsoft Office suite. Previous laboratory experience is a plus. Candidate is required to have good verbal and written communication skills, and ability work well in team environments. Ability to lift 25 lbs.
