UTC Aerospace Systems is one of the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. UTC Aerospace Systems in Rome, NY is seeking a mechanical or aerospace design engineer for a role that will support the development of our aircraft shafts product line. This position will be focused on the creation of design solutions for new technology and will support existing shaft products.
Additional responsibilities include:
•Assists in the design, development and verification of component parts and assemblies of the company products. Following prescribed procedures and under direct supervision, develops and analyzes cost effective product designs that meet or exceed the customer expectations. Tasks include design and modification, experimentation, analysis, and documentation. Participates as a team member in defined phases of broader engineering assignments.
•Perform basic assignments which involve design, development, experimentation, and verification of analysis. Design verification activities including stress analysis using classical and finite element methods fatigue stress analysis, fracture mechanics, dynamics, and reliability assessments. Assist in establishing, overseeing and reviewing product performance and validation test activities.
•Develop new product designs and existing product improvement ideas through the use of computer aided design modeling.
•Participate and function on multi-discipline teams consisting of representatives from other engineering groups, manufacturing, business development, and the customer. Prepare and/or present technical reports and presentations.
•Provide design engineering support, with direct supervision, to OEM and Product Support operations on existing production programs. Duties include assisting with the manufacturing development of new products, disposition of non-conforming material, review of Engineering Orders, troubleshooting manufacturing issues, and evaluating field issues and repairs.
•Build background knowledge of product, manufacturing methods, applications and specific customer needs. Continue to learn and utilize basic product terminology, technology and manufacturing methods. Participate in engineering or technical training as required to improve skill.
•Four year degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar ¿0-2+ years of design or related engineering experience required
•Internship or Co-op experience preferred
•Computer aided design software knowledge. Unigraphics experience preferred.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
•Fundamental engineering knowledge in Stress Analysis, Mechanics of Materials, Statics and Dynamics
•Strong analytical and technical skills
•Good communication and interpersonal savvy with ability to work in a team environment
•Ability to give technical presentations
•Ability to understand and create drawings, specifications, and reports
•Requires ability to provide technical support for production of product in manufacturing environment
