CNC Programmer I

Writes CNC programs for new jobs, revises old CNC programs, and proves out all programs per blueprint specifications. May require to work on regular production orders on conventional lathes, mills, grinders, sanders, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and CNC engraving machines as needed. Works on regular production work orders, using all conventional machines and CNC machines. Utilizes ISO compliant documentation and/or processes to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Performs calculations and sets controls to regulate specified machining factors such as speed, feed, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edits computerized control media. Develops or revises CNC programming in accordance to engineering drawing specifications or work instructions. Information of affected programming is recorded onto applicable forms per SOP3003 and programming back-up created on appropriate media. Selects, aligns, and secures specified holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, grinders, sanders, drill presses, CNC lathes, CNC mills, computerized engraving machines and riveting machines. Set up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings of programmed control data. Verifies conformance of finished first article workpiece to specifications and conducts subsequent inspection of workpieces in accordance to the machine shop's Statistical Process Control (SPC) inspection system. Starts and observes machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Uses appropriate equipment and tools to perform job functions safely. Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly. Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly. Conducts corrective action review on discrepant parts. Suggests and implements process/productivity improvements. Zero accident and complies with all company and/or Carbon Products EH&S policies and procedures, including personal protective equipment use, housekeeping standards, and EH&S training requirements. Handles of hazardous materials. Other duties as assigned.


High School Diploma or GED is required. Must have CNC Programming Certificate Must have CNC Programming Certificate and a minimum of 5 years machining experience on CNC machines and conventional machines. Must be knowledgeable and able to read blueprints. Experience in using precision measuring instruments. Use appropriate equipment and tools to perform job functions safely. Competent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent math skills are required. Good reasoning ability.
